We spent last week being heartbroken over all the people in Joplin who are hurting. Lots of prayers and tears around here. And we wanted to do what we could to help. So here's what we're thinking...
- We can collect fabric scraps from anyone who is willing to ship them to us. (Nothing smaller than 13" squares, please.)
Please ship to: the Long ladies, PO Box 574, Seneca, MO 64865
- We can also be collecting Queen or King-sized flat sheets (new or gently used) to be used as quilt backing.
- And we can make as many quilt tops as we can!
- We're asking for volunteers... if we sent you enough fabric to make a quilt top, would you sew it together for us?
The whole idea is to make as many quilts as we can for these families who don't have anything left. It seems like the least we can do. We'll plan to post updates on our progress along and along. Please pass the word, and feel free to re-post this, facebook it, twitter it, or whatever you like. Let's get the word out and start sewing!
XOXO, the Long ladies
I would love to help you out, and I would volunteer my help in sewing, would you mind me sharing on my blog this post? www.babystam.blogspot.com

YES! Ever since that awful tornado came through my area, I have been so heartsick about all that has been lost by so many, here and in AL and MO.
I am not set up to actually do the final quilting, but I am currently unemployed and cannot send money but would most certainly sew together several tops if I had the squares to do it with. You can email me alaskawildrose at gmail dot com if you are still looking for sewing volunteers. :)

I should have also mentioned that I do have some fabric that would work in a quilt, but not a lot. I'd be glad to cut my squares to match though, and add them to something if need be!

Yes, plese send! I have a few pieces I can mix in if that helps. I also have a couple of tops already put together I can send with the return package if that is ok. Thank you for putting this project together.

Dear Long Ladies, I think this is a lovely idea. I noticed that Chantel said she would need some more fabrics for her to sew the quilt. How about if I send her my fabric directly so that she can sew the quilt top? Since she has left her address, I will email her directly.

What size quilt tops are you looking for? I could probably put together a couple of tops, but I'd like to have an idea of what would be a good size.

We started cutting some squares today...are you looking for a specific pattern or size?

I just posted about it on Practically Pink! I'll try to gather some supplies and send them to you soon. I think I can find some leftover scraps that would make some beautiful quilts. Praying for you, ladies! =)

This is an answer to prayer. We need to clear out my mom's stash. She is so happy to have a good place to send her fat quarters. I will go to her old house today and pack them up to send to you. Thank you and God bless.

I just went through my scraps and have plenty of big pieces to share! I would also be willing to sew a quilt top. I'm sending my fabric this week! :) Thanks for putting together such a worthy project!

I sent an email about the one quilt top I already have nearly finished, but then I saw where you would send squares to peice also. I think the ladies & girls at our church would be interested in doing this as a group, so if you have squares (or at least part of what is needed) I think we can gather up some more from our stashes to put some tops together. We just need to know what size to make them. I don't know that we can finish the actual quilting, but I know they can sew a straight line, & would gladly help those in need! Please send me the specifics as soon as ya'll can!

I have an almost finished quilt top which I would love to send to you! I would gladly sew together squares to make a quilt top also!
I posted this on my blog.

I just sewed a twin size quilt. If I send it to you, could you make sure it gets to a family in need? Also, how are you planning to distribute the quilts you make/receive? Are you partnering with an organization like Samaritan's Purse or delivering them yourselves? Thanks!

Hello Amy!
Please forgive us for not replying sooner to your comment. We’ve had a pretty hectic week!
We are planning on contacting a Christian organization (such as Samaritan’s Purse) to distribute the quilts. We’ve not partnered with anyone yet, as we are still working on collecting quilts. Of course, we most definitely want all of our quilts to go to a family in need! We hope this answers your question! If we can help with anything else, just let us know.

I would be willing to sew a quilt top or two. I'll definitely need you to send fabric, though. I'm a fairly new quilter and don't have a stash established yet. Send me an e-mail and I'll send you my address. Thanks for letting me assist.
